Crown of Flame
A jack-o’-lantern that chose fire instead of candlelight.
A carved pumpkin glows from within, its jagged grin lit by a flame that rises straight out of its crown. Painted in rich washes of amber, ochre, and deep orange, the fire flickers upward against a smoky, darkened background, giving the piece a sense of heat and motion without ever leaving the page.
There’s something feral and playful here. The pumpkin feels alive rather than decorative, as if it made a decision. Soft watercolor edges blur into shadow while the flame remains sharp and insistent, creating a tension between warmth and threat that feels perfectly at home in the thinning days of autumn.
Printed as a fine art print available in 5" × 7" or 8" × 10" and matted in clean white to let the glow and contrast stand out.
Originally painted in watercolor on paper.
